Emily J Newman MBACP (Accred.) Counselling & Psychotherapy in Bath

The initial session

If you are looking for a counsellor in Bath, or are happy to meet via video or telephone, and you decide to get in contact, then the first step would be for us to arrange an initial counselling session; this could take place in person, by video or via the telephone. This initial session is an opportunity for you to get a feel for the process and to decide if you would like to continue. There is no pressure to commit to continuing as the most important thing is that you find a counsellor who is right for you, and who you feel able to trust and connect with. If you did choose to continue, we would then arrange a regular time to meet each week and each session would last for 50 minutes. The counselling process is unique to each individual and can be short or long term, but is reviewed during our work together.

How I work

I am an integrative counsellor which means that my practice is influenced by a variety of approaches, and I use a range of techniques from humanistic, psychodynamic, existential and cognitive behavioural therapies. Working in this way enables me to tailor my approach to meet your individual needs. My additional training as an online video and telephone counsellor means that I am also able to offer these methods of counselling to help suit your needs. The core aspect of my approach is to work on building a trusting relationship and supportive environment to help you feel comfortable in exploring any thoughts or feelings that may arise and where you will be the focus of my attention.
